make: Edison lamp

Ever wanted to build a lamp?
No? Not on your usual weekend to do list eh.
Me neither.

Anthropologie :: Menlo

     But sometimes it happens. A while back I bought some Edison bulbs at the new (to me as I'd never been) West Elm store in Toronto. Beautiful glass bulbs, for which I had no intended purpose.

     Enter my love of industrial design. Specifically I like minimalist scientific style. Ever since middle school I've loved beakers, test tubes and utilitarian steel. Unfortunately my purchase of said style is limited by its trendy pricing, my low funds and the always sad 'do not ship to Canadas' of the internet. But I'm the type of girl who figures if you can't find it maybe you can build it.

Schoolhouse Electric :: lab lamp

     Picture me at IKEA, lost in the fabulous Swedish-ness of it. I found HEMMA, which at $5.99 seemed like a decent way to experiment. Excellent in that its a nice matte black and reminds me of a distillation stand. Bad in that its wired for a tiny bulb and would not fit my Edisons. I bought two.
