eat: gourmet foodtrucks

     I'll confess that until I started drinking at bars in University, I'd never eaten street food. But London's beloved streetmeat quickly became a favorite. Spicy sausages and faux bacon bits were my go-to after bar walk home snack.

Toasted Tangerine :: so delicious

9.2.12

make: spinach chips

     These are like potato chips, possibly more awesome. In the past week,  I've eaten a giant plastic tub of spinach all by myself.  This recipe is easy, doesn't take a lot of time and is totally delicious.

It's simple:

a few handfuls of spinach
olive oil
salt
wax paper

     Put spinach in a bowl and toss with oil and salt. Be sparing with the oil, I use a regular spoonful on about two handfulls.  Spread onto wax paper covered baking sheet in a single layer. Bake at 250 degress until dark green and crisp (20 to 30 minutes depending on leaves). They should just peel off and be brittle like paper.

    Enjoy! And I can attest that one cannot eat enough spinach chips to turn into Popeye.

places: Winterlicious

     The months of January and February in Canada are serious evidence for human hibernation. Everything is pretty wet and cold, it's dark before most people get home from work. Not exactly prime social time when all I want to do when I get home is put on sweatpants and wool socks.

     Winterlicious is Toronto's answer to the slow January seasons. I missed out last year on making reservations, so I was to sure to mark it down and make my list early. My unicorn was dinner at Canoe but they were booked up within hours of opening to reservations. It's still on my list of place I want to eat in Toronto, between the food and the view from the 54th floor it sounds divine.

places: Dark Horse Espresso

     I judge you by your latte. Sometimes, if I'm feeling fancy, I judge you by your dry cappuccino. Winterlicious has started here in rainy Toronto (more on that later) so after an early lunch in Leslieville I needed a fix to get myself ready to trek across town to the new CB2 store. I've noticed Dark Horse before, how could I not with that awesome logo. I wasn't disappointed, they make excellent java. They also stock Chemex supplies, about which I got very excited. I can't currently justify another coffee brewer purchase but it's nice to know I can peruse somewhere other then online.

sans serif :: tempting

    I also love their coffee wall, the place smelled amazing when we walked in. You know me and the details, so the colour coded labels and awesome tin metal ceiling had me wishing we could stay and enjoy the drinks instead of having to run.

 love this ceiling :: I hope it's original
